Countering Violent Extremism with Governance Networks

Anja Dalgaard-Nielsen

Abstract

It is often noted that one-size-fits all solutions are unlikely to work when it comes to countering violent extremism. This research note argues that central government needs multiple, diverse local and civil society partners to mobilize the knowledge and resources needed to differentiate from case to case. It suggests that public administration research into governance networks offers a useful lens on the practical challenges, limits, and opportunities of working against violent extremism in such a broad coalition of actors.
